In the right hands, a sling could hurl a lead bullet at an astonishing 160km per hour, and hit a target up to 400 metres away! When that lead bullet did hit its target, it could do some serious damage. Ancient writers tell us that such a bullet could pierce shields, penetrate deep into the flesh, shatter bones, and potentially kill an enemy soldier.
