Vabalathus became the child king of Palmyra at age eight under the real power of his mother, Queen Zenobia.The Truce: Roman Emperor Aurelian was busy fighting other wars, so he initially allowed Palmyra to govern the East in exchange for acknowledging Roman supremacy. Palmyra conquered Egypt and parts of Anatolia, cutting off Rome's grain. In late 271 AD, Zenobia declared Vabalathus the full Emperor (Augustus), ending the peace. Aurelian invaded and crushed Palmyra in 272 AD.
